This would be a good time for us to accumulate some excellent questions for Dan Gutman so the PTO can arrange our video conference with the author. I'm sure Mark may have some ideas as he works on the Gutman books article. I hope we can get a list together by next Wednesday.
Nicole, Although the Herald staff cannot enter any of the paper's contests, we can still write and publish! So, if any of our reporters want to submit a Thanksgiving poem it can be printed but it can't win the contest. Also, Megan, I agree with Nicole about interviewing the custodians. They get to see how much paper gets wasted - in classrooms, as paper towels, etc. Students and former teachers are good people to ask too.
ms.g i interviewed 2, 1 graders today.[boy and girl]they are in 1-m.if you want, i can interview more first grade classes tomorrow.mary forgot her notebook so she is going to do it wed. i can go and interview a class when she interviews a different class are do you want us to do it together.also do you want me to interview more people for 1-m. also how many people per class.
also meghan, you could see how much paper gets reclyed and how much gets thowrn out.also how much gets on the floor.
The number of people you interview for your articles is up to you. Taking a friend to the interview can be helpful if they will try to remember details to write down later (or in your notebooks).
i am going to make a time with mrs.bevedere and interview her. if anybody had her or whats to help they can.mary if you finish what your wrting early can you help me write the first grade article. also emma and franjessica, we can finish doing the other word search when we are both done with what we are working on. for know we should start thinking of ideas. i thought we could do some colors.

Paper is something that is wasted in the world. Countless numbers of trees are being cut down. To make matters worse, animals are losing their homes and becoming endangered. Many people are helping the environment. I gave some staff members of Hartshorn Elementary School a paper to fill out. They all think that wasting paper is irresponsible. They feel sad, and they know wasting paper happens a lot. It hurts our planet. I dislike it as well. When children color on a sheet of paper, dislike it, and throw it into the trashcan, paper is being wasted. In the library, some kids print things to the library computer, but never pick it up. Flyers sent home with children are news that can easily be e-mailed to parents. Paper bags can be replaced with reusable bags. In the bathrooms, toilet paper and paper towels on the floor are not just disgusting, but a big waste. There are simple things we can do to save paper.

They said"We are practicing hand writing.We are also writing personal stories, all about books, and more."They are also doing reading,in reading they are doing reading jorunals, and more.And in sicence they are doing, planting,weather,and the solar system.They are also doing sloids,liguds,and gases.wow, i don't remember doing alot of this. ms.g do you want me to give you what i typed already so you can put it together.

A rather common idea among the staff members I sent my form to, is to send out emails instead of handing out flyers. One staff member suggested having access to a shredder. She says it would encourage recycling. Mrs. Goldberg has “No Print” days throughout the year to raise awareness. Some staff members mentioned that. One staff member wishes to buy recycled paper for copy machines and printers. Some staff members think we are doing quite a bit. Everybody knows about recycling, and less ditto sheets are copied. The weekly newsletter is now email. Some students and teachers are using reusable lunch sacks. The staff members have concerns about other things being wasted as well. Water bottles need to be with reusable bottles, like stainless steel bottles. We can recycle or donate supplies that aren’t used up. Electricity is also being wasted. When classes are not in session we should turn out the lights! One staff member said we sometimes waste words. Some people talk without an organized manner. There are things that NEED to be said, and things that we’d like to say. Another staff member said that time is being wasted. We need to get better organized. We try our best not to waste at Hartshorn School. I hope everybody tries there best to recycle. Happy recycling!

Excellent work, all of the commenters! I will copy and paste Megan's article into the Herald and then she can proof read it. I'll also copy and paste Nicole's and add the rest that she gives me tomorrow. The rest of the editing shouldn't take too long. The contest entrants list needs to be typed up. We've got a lot more entries and I organized them by grade level. Second issue work can go on while we finish up the first. By 4:30 tomorrow we have to have a first issue to print and give to Mr. Castaldo for editing. Thanks for all your hard work!
does any body think my idea for the inapropreit books is good, and want to help me. we could also do a article on the giants's player who came. and we can also do a article for the dan gutman skeype.we could also do a severy of the favorite sport, and favorite team for that sport.we could do another movie or book review. if people don't have any idea's for a article for the next issue they can use some of these if they want.

To answer a couple of Nicole's questions: the Poetry Contest trio gets to choose each grade level winner (Ms. G and Mrs. L will advise, only if necessary). Also, Emily A. and Ms. G. have already written the Dan Gutman Skype article based on Emily's excellent notes taken during the interview!
